Sadly, It's taken me six days to take a photo of the bike all put back together again. I just went for a fun little ride downtown and found myself in this alley to take a couple of photos.
I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that my living room no longer looks like this.
I love creative and clever street art. Happening upon this made my day. I see nothing wrong with leaving artistically enhanced women's accessories on the streets. It's functional art for the taking.
There is a hair salon across the street from the gallery called District 96 and they came in tonight asking if they could use my space for some photos since they lost the sun. I said sure. Of course, I thought it would be wise to make a photo shoot out of their photo shoot. Sadly, my little cybershot did not take a crisp picture, but you get the idea. And yeah, it's totally fine to put blame on the equipment as opposed to the user of the equipment.
A flash mob (or flashmob) is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails. The term is generally not applied to events organized by public relations firms or as publicity stunts.
I was completely unaware of this amazing act of public art until recently. Thanks to youtube it's pretty easy to see some flash mobs in action. This one, entitled "Frozen Grand Central", is one of the more popular ones and I think it's quite poignant.
Why am I talking about this? Because my friend Ashley is organizing a flash mob to take place in downtown San Luis Obispo to see if our little town is ready for big city style displays of public performance art.
We need at least 100 people to make this work well. I'm not sure if a title has been chosen for this particular piece, but for now I will call it "The Red And Yellow Mixer".
Anybody can participate and the more the merrier! Parents are also encouraged to bring their little ones to expose them to weird art stuff. Because hey, every kid needs to experience weird art happenings. It's "culture", people.
Are you in? If so, you'll need two things. One orange shirt and also one yellow or one red shirt. That's two shirts total. Nothing fancy. Pick something up at Goodwill if you have to. Ideally, there will be the same amount of reds as there are yellows.
Next, meet at The New Times parking lot on the corner of Osos and Marsh in downtown San Luis Obispo at 6:30pm this Thursday, August 20, 2009.

I got the keys to the new gallery space today. This amazing little bamboo is the first thing to take up residence in the new space and it couldn't make me happier. Here are a couple of shots of the inside.
This view is from the center of the front window looking in. This next shot is taken from standing in the middle of where that little hallway begins.
And here I am laying on the ground. Too tired to do anything except carry one little cute bamboo plant.
I was recently invited to be a judge for "Battle Of The Salons". Wednesday was the first battle and it was an awesome show. These salons went all out and a good time was had by all.
This is my view of the runway from the judge's table.
Here I am posing like a nerd, but very proud to be representing some sweet gear from Beige Apparel.
Niites documented the festivities and made us all feel like celebrities.
To check out photos of the models doing their thing on the runway visit album 1 and album 2.
This battle will be happening every Wednesday until July 8, 2009. Check out Native Lounge for more info and reserve a table early so you can be treated like a king.
